The causes of Tabex
As of the year 2000, smoking was the leading cause of death in the United States. Tobacco use was responsible for over 400,000 deaths per year, and approximately three million people were suffering with chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD). COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a progressive disease that makes the lungs and airways stiff and scarred, resulting in reduced lung function.
The causes of Tabex are not yet known but it is thought to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. There is very little or no evidence that the drug is effective in helping smokers to quit. Even though some people appear to be able to quit after taking the drug, it is not known if they are doing so because of the drug or if it is the placebo effect. It is known to cause adverse effects such as insomnia, tremors and depression.
A nicotine-containing product called “Tabex” was approved for sale in the USA in March 2006. The product was developed by Sopharma, a French pharmaceutical company. In the United States, Tabex is marketed by the Nicorette brand. All Nicorette products contain the same active ingredient, Nicorelac, which is the metabolite of nicotine (the active ingredient in cigarettes) and which is used in Tabex. Nicorette contains the same amount of nicotine as a regular cigarette (about 1.6 mg). Tabex is a nicotine-free nicotine replacement therapy. Nicorette is intended to be used as needed, while Tabex is taken daily (24-hour-supply).
Since the FDA has banned its use in cigarettes, people are turning to the oral form of the drug in an attempt to quit smoking. However, experts warn that there is little evidence that the medication works. The FDA has approved Sibutramine (Meridia) for use as an anti-obesity medication. A prescription-only FDA-approved weight loss medication, Meridia is taken once daily and is intended to help obese individuals lose weight and improve their metabolic function. The drug is approved for use in adults 18 years and older. The medication is available in two strengths: 30mg and 60mg. Meridia is a centrally (brain) acting weight-reducing agent. It works by blocking the reuptake of n
Tabex is a brand name for a type of tobacco-based nicotine smoking cessation aid containing nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotine, sold in the United States and Canada.
Tabex is a cannabinoid-based drug that is used to treat chronic pain. These days it is also being investigated as a smoking cessation aid, according to a paper published in the most recent issue of the journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy. Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, report that among smokers and recent quitters, those who received treatment with cannabinoids were about half as likely as those who received placebo to report a relapse in smoking within 1 year. The San Francisco scientists also found that patients who took the drug in combination with other medicines were 20 percent less likely to have a relapse and were no more likely to quit than those who received placebo.
Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death, and its prevalence rates are rising. At the same time, the quality of information about smoking cessation is very poor. In the US alone, there are over 50 million smokers: some 13% of the adult population. They are the majority of people undergoing treatment for smoking-related diseases. They are also likely to be the people who are quitting smoking.
